Materials and Tools
Students Bring:
Links are provided but feel free to source from anywhere
Scissors, pencil, eraser, ruler, notebook
X-acto knife (or your favorite knife)
Beveling tool (You could use your X-acto knife for this if needed)
Needle tool
Serrated metal rib or scoring tool
Firm silicone/rubber tipped sculpting tools
Double Ended Ball Stylus Tools (anything that makes a rounded indent is fine)
One 4” and one 3” terra cotta pot
Water Bottle Mister for keeping work moist
Mudtools Rubber Ribs: I use the yellow 0 & 3
Large rolling pin (I prefer to not have handles on mine)
Pony roller
Circle cutter set (the most important circle size is 1” in diameter)
Small, lidded container (for construction slip)
Shoes, purses/bags, zippers, belt buckles for sprig molds
Thin plastic to cover work
Box and bubble wrap to transport finished work
Bagged lunch & water (coffee and lite snacks provided)
Optional:
Printed out images of tooled leather patterns to trace and carve into your pieces
2mm craft foam for pattern/template making
Sculpey Tools Clay Extruder 20 piece set (Don’t buy a cheaper set. This one works the
best!)
Work apron
Damp Box
Clean U-Wedge Mat (very useful if you plan to continue to hand build)
Sarah Will Provide:
Cone 6 Kentucky Mudworks Sheltowee (or Elkhorn) clay & attaching slip
Slip made from Kentucky Mudworks Iceman clay (for slip trailing)
Slip trailers with fine/20 gauge metal tips (I use FineLine Applicator Pens but feel free to
use your own)
Review hand-outs & tooled leather design examples
Leather stitch rollers
Pre-cut patterns for basic drinking vessel shapes
2mm craft foam for pattern/template making
