Double Island Studio is owned and operated by artists Liz Zlot Summerfield and Scott Summerfield. They reside in Bakersville, North Carolina with their talented daughter, Roby Summerfield. Each share a passion for their craft which consists of ceramics, glass, and printmaking.
They started with a small grassroots dream of having a teaching space for themselves and quickly realized that they wanted to share the space with other talented instructors and students to provide high quality workshops.
Double Island Studio is conveniently located 15 minutes from Penland School of Craft and 50 minutes from Asheville. It encompasses a three acre property that was once home to a vermiculture composting business that they converted for their needs.
It includes a spacious teaching studio which accommodates 10 hands-on participants, 2 artist in residence studios, an outdoor covered area for eating and relaxing, and a newly constructed tiny home (aka The Casita) available for rent to instructors and students or anyone visiting the area. The property is easily accessible and located off of a paved road with ample parking.
