Materials and Tools

Students Bring:

Links are provided but feel free to source from anywhere

  • Journal and favorite writing tool

  • 4" Steel Mini Pliers with wire cutter

  • Small wire cutters like Xuron Maxi-Shear Flush 2175

  • Small sharp Fiskar 5"embroidery scissors

  • 5" and 7" Irwin brand vice grip

  • 28 or 26 gauge annealed “sewing wire” 

  • Small palette knife or Micro spatula

  • 16 and 18-19 gauge annealed black steel wire available at Ace Hardware

  • Bring any wire that you have on hand - galvanized steel, copper, aluminum, and brass wire will not rust with the gut

  • Cafeteria or plastic tray or enamel metal tray

  • Large eye darning needle for yarn

  • 18" metal ruler

  • 3 - 8oz container with lid

  • Paper, scraps of materials, threads, natural materials, etc for inclusions with the gut 

  • Sharpie marker

  • Ear protection/safety glasses if you don't wear glasses

  • Apron or studio clothes

  • Hand towel/rag for wiping steel

  • Up to date tetanus shot

  • Box to transport finished work

  • Bagged lunch & water (coffee and lite snacks provided)

  • 16, 18, and 26 gauge annealed steel wire
